                          Artist Statement

I create art because it is who I am. I believe I was born an artist, creating at an extremely young age. I have always been compelled to observe something and re-create it to express how I see and feel it in my realm. I continually feel the desire to reveal myself visually through my works, wanting the viewer to feel the desire to be there, in that moment or place that they are viewing. 

I am inspired through a passion for the ever-changing natural world and its diversity. I strive to re-create my experience of places, people and the elements in life to be viewed through my interpretation. It is as if the moment or event takes hold of me and my mind immediately begins to process it into the body of work that it will become.

In a world that uses words and language to communicate and express itself, I create to speak in a visual statement that intensifies the message with color and form. I want them to experience a spiritual presence, to see what I feel not only with their eyes, but, with their intellect, senses and emotions.

The artwork that I create is unique because I am not limited to a specific theme or by the materials that I use. I create what moves me in any form using multiple types of paint, mediums, fabric and other various elements that will transform them to a finished piece. I use mixed media to bring an abstract view or oils and acrylic paint for a more realistic representation. I allow the contrast of the light and darkness and the battle that they ensue to influence the mood.

The ideas for my work come from visits to the gulf coast; Sarasota and Siesta Key specifically, and my family experiences and love for flowers and nature.

My works are an extension of what dwells in my soul from the interactions of my experiences. I am compelled to release the idea of who I am and what I have seen and project it onto a physical space.
